Security Specialist
These are TEMPORARY, INTERMITTENT positions located in the Office of International High Threat Programs, Bureau of Diplomatic Security. The incumbent serves as a Security Specialist responsible for the full range of security activities (i.e. investigative, physical, personnel, protective, procedural) and operations in support of the Regional Security Officers (RSOs) at regional posts in the assigned regional area.
- Serves as the senior DS representative and principal liaison with host nation government officials, U.S. law enforcement entities, and Intelligence Community partners to acquire, evaluate, and disseminate threat and security-related information.
- Coordinates and supports protective security operations for visits by senior U.S. Government officials, including leading interagency planning efforts and providing armed protective support when required.
- Serves as the principal action officer for security programs within the region, advising RSOs and post leadership on integrated security strategies by planning, prioritization, budgeting, and resource allocation in response to evolving threats.
- Directs and conducts comprehensive security surveys and assessments and implementation of countermeasures at all diplomatic facilities and assets within the region, including chancery buildings, annexes, warehouses, and residential compounds.
- Performs executive-level administrative functions as directed by the Chief of Mission or Deputy Chief of Mission, ensuring the integration of security considerations into broader mission management and decision-making processes.
Requirements
Applicants must meet all the required qualification requirements described below by the closing date of this announcement. NOTE: Applicants must meet time-in-grade and time after competitive appointment requirements, by the closing date of this announcement. Time-In-Grade Requirements: Federal applicants must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade to satisfy time-in-grade restrictions, per 5CFR 300, Subpart F. Applicants must have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 level in the Federal service which provided the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties of the position. Qualifying specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience liaising with host government, American law enforcement, and intelligence community officials to ensure the timely acquisition, evaluation, and dissemination of information affecting mission security. Experience applying advanced security concepts, principles, and practices related to investigative, physical and personnel protection, and/or procedural security overseas. Experience coordinating and supporting protective security operations overseas for senior U.S. Government officials, including providing protective support under elevated threat conditions. Experience analyzing and evaluating security operations overseas to establish policies and procedures or conduct program assessments and reviews. There is no substitute of education for specialized experience for the GS-14 position.
