Facilities Services Supervisor
The Smithsonian Institution is the world's largest museum, education, and research complex, with 21 museums and the National Zoo. This position is located in the Facilities Department, Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum (CHSDM). Located on New York City's Museum Mile, in the historic Carnegie Mansion and Garden, Cooper Hewitt is the only museum in the United States devoted exclusively to historic and contemporary design.
The Facilities Services Supervisor is responsible for supervising facilities staff; overseeing loading dock and shuttle operations (the museum proper is located in New York City and the storage facility is located in Newark, NJ); and ensuring safety compliance. In this position, you will: Serve as the supervisor for the Facilities Services staff. Duties include the following: developing performance plans, evaluating work, coaching employees, administering leave, resolving staff complaints, recommending promotions or awards, and initiating any disciplinary personnel actions. Plan, direct, monitor and manage the day-to-day oversight of the museum's cleaning and housekeeping operation, organizing, coordinating, and directing custodial work and general maintenance activities of the Facilities staff. Coordinate Facilities support for museum events and programs, both internal and external as required, including furniture movement, setup, and takedown. Serve as the Loading Dock Supervisor, managing all receiving, storing, and shipping activities. Responsibilities include enforcing safety procedures, authorizing vehicle access and coordinating visitor flow, tracking shipments, maintaining inventory logs, and ensuring secure storage of materials. Inspect motor vehicles, ensuring that they are properly serviced and operating on schedule.
